Discovery Park & the American River Parkway


 

Bike Rides


Family Ride (10 Miles) - (Start Time: 10:30 AM)

Starting at Discovery Park this ride meanders along the American River Parkway to mile marker 6.  Once riders reach this turnaround point and return to the starting point.  The trail twists and turns along scenic tree groves and flat grasslands.  You'll see an abundance of wildlife along the trail.  The entire ride is on off-road trail with only one roadway crossing.

Difficulty Level - Easy

Terrain - Flat

Half-Metric Century (32 Miles) - (Start Time 9:00 AM)

Starting at Discovery Park this ride winds along the trail past Guy West Bridge, over a few small rolling hills with a Rest Stop at William B Pond Park.  After a rest, riders proceed over the bridge at Goethe Park over a few more rolling hills to the halfway point at Ancil Hoffman Park and turn and ride back to the original starting point.

Difficulty Level - Easy

Terrain - Flat with a few small rolling hills.

Metric Century (62.5 Miles) - (Start Time 7:00 AM)

Starting at Discovery Park this ride travels the same path as the half-metric century and continues along the full length of the parkway up to Beals Point.  Besides the Rest Stop at William B. Pond Park, an additional Rest Stop is located at Beals Point.  There is a tough climb along Folsom Dam and up to Beals Point.  On the return ride, riders will stop for a 3rd Rest Stop at William B Pond.  On the way back it's pretty much all downhill.

Difficulty Level - Moderate to Difficult

Terrain - Flatlands, small rolling hills, steep climb around ride midway point.

5k Walk - (Start Time:  10:30 AM)

This is an easy walk that strolls along the Discovery Park area.  The terrain is flat with no rolling hills.
